Gluten free Chocolate cake

Today is my youngest’s son birthday, yesterday I decided to make a chocolate birthday cake



This recipe is very simple and easy to make!


175g unsalted butter (leave out at room temperature)

190g Dextrose or 175g Sugar

175g gluten free SR flour (I used Doves Farm)

25g cacao powder ( I used Bon Pom ) or cocoa powder gluten free

4 eggs

1 1/2 tsp GF baking powder

A little milk if needed

2 x 7 in prepared lined Tins



Pre heat oven 180c

Cream fat and sugar together

Add beaten eggs

Mix together

Add flour, baking powder and cacao

If the cake mixture feels a little too thick and a splash of dairy or non dairy milk

When completely mixed together spoon in to cake tins


pop in the oven for 25 mins

remove from oven and turn out onto wire rack




Once cooled add filling

I used a butter icing inside the cake but to keep it low sugar use extra thick double cream


I used Cadburys large chocolate buttons to decorate

The cake went down very well with the family, I will definitely make it again.

Grain free Chocolate cake refined sugar free too

A friend made this cake recently for her son’s birthday and recommended it to me. The recipe comes from It is the most delicious chocolate cake, a little like a brownie in taste but lighter in texture. Well worth trying with a big dollop of double cream.

Here is the recipe Chocolate cake


First I mixed together the dry ingredients ground almonds, raw cacao powder, bicarbonate of soda




then I beat the eggs and put water and dates in a food processor until a smooth paste


I added the date puree to the eggs and coconut oil

Then I mixed the wet ingredients into the dry ones

I spooned the mixture into an 8 inch cake tin and put in a pre heated oven to 165oC


bake for 25-30 mins

I left the cake to cool in the tin



once cool I turned out onto a wire rack

Gluten free Chocolate cake mix by Incognito cakes

Incognito cakes kindly offered to send me a new Chocolate cake mix for me to try.


I normally make a homemade cake for my son’s birthday but as I had the Incognito cake mix to try I used that. I wasn’t disappointed and have to admit it was lighter than my cakes.


The cake used coconut milk in the mixture and I used butter as apposed to vegetable oil as I am not dairy intolerant.

The mixture was like a batter quite different to my usual sponges, I was very interested to see how it would turn out.


I have to say I was impressed with the bake, the cake had risen very well. Now just had to leave it to cool and add the icing mix provided.


The topping was easy to make up and there was enough to sandwich the two halves together and ice the top of the cake.


Now the proof of the pudding is in the eating! Well this Birthday cake had a thumbs up all round. Amazingly light, a very impressive cake!
